SCIENCE POPULARIZATION ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNICATORS AND EDUCATORS- 'SPACE'

The space club activities continued with the same verve and enthusiasm to let the children see the wonderful contours of space from a scientific perspective. The space club members had the privilege to see the solar eclipse through special goggles arranged for them by the school.

The students of Bal Bharati have shown keen interest in research- oriented learning. The school functions with SPACE organization to inculcate scientific temper among young minds. The students attend workshops conducted by the club such as observing solar eclipse, transit of planets and other celestial events.

The students also as members of the club go to Dark Sites to observe the night sky as a part of their activities.

They are frequently updated with more and more astronomical events that occur every year and a few students are even invited to represent the club to view these events.

  • Space Club members visited Jantar Mantar on February 4, 2010 under the Astronomy Club module – II. They also visited Nehru Planetarium on March 2, 2010 for a session on New Solar System in the Sky theater
  • Space club members were also invited for an interactive session with NASA astronaut Joan Higginbotham at Nehru Memorial Museum on July 6, 2010. Ms Higginbotham shared her experiences in space and discussed the various problems faced by her in space missions. She also showed a clip of her stay in space
COMMUNITY OUTREACH

In order to sensitize our children to the suffering and plight of underprivileged children, who are less fortunate than them, children from ‘Anugrah’ were invited to school on March 12, 2010. They had an enjoyable time having joyride on swings and enjoyed snacks served by children.
Fulfilling its social commitments, the school also extended a helping hand to NGO- Jagriti, by organizing a theatre workshop for the underprivileged children

NATURE CLUB

The year saw the birth of Nature Club (Red Panda Club) of the school. With the initial involvement of 15 students, it soon reached the hundred mark. Treasure Hunt by WWF in the National Zoological Park and many other activities were carried out by our environmentally conscious students who also participated in the National Essay Writing Competition for Youth on climate change. A Young Climate Savers Project has also been launched in collaboration with WWF-India, the country’s leading environmental organization. Under which the students are working actively on increasing the green cover in and around the school and are trying whole heartedly to make our school a polythene free zone.

EARTH HOUR 2010

Ms Sagri Negi from WWF-India addressed the students of class VI – VIIIth on March 2, 2010. She screened a beautiful earth hour song to motivate students to take some action for climate change. This was followed by an interactive session wherein the queries of students regarding climate change were answered. At the end the school Principal, the Head Boy and Head Girl signed a pledge card on behalf of all the students and teachers of the school to preserve electricity.

Signature Pledge Campaign for Water Conservation 2010

A Signature Pledge Campaign for Water conservation was organized by Rotary Club of Midtown in association with WWF- India on the theme – “JAL HAI TO KAL HAI” (“SAVE WATER SAVE LIFE”). To support this social cause the students of our school signed pledge banners with motivating captions and slogans (on water conservation). The banners were sent to the Rotary Club and submitted as a memento of declaration for water conservation to the President/ Vice President of India on 22nd March, 2010 – “THE WORLD WATER DAY”

PVR Nest Cineart Project- “PRAKRITI”

PVR Nest launched CineArt 2010, in 10 schools and 10 NGO’s, working closely with children/young adolescents. CineArt is amalgamation of cinema, media and art to spread awareness and involve young adolescents in various causes. This year’s theme for CineArt is ‘Nature’
