AUSTRALIA–INDIA PRINCIPALS LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

The school Principal was invited to be a part of a select group of eight Principals from all over India chosen by the Australian High Commission for Australia–India Principals Leadership Programme at Melbourne and Sydney from June 7 to 20, 2009. The purpose of this programme was to chalk out new educational programmes and strategies which could be effectively disseminated among Australian and Indian Principals.

During the visit, the Principal got a chance to visit various Schools and Departments of Education in Melbourne & Geelong and study various aspects of school administration styles. The school Principal also got a chance for home stay with the Vice-Principal of Saint Ignatius College, Geelong to facilitate better understanding of a different culture. Close interactions with the Principal Mr Michael and the Deputy Principal Ms Kerry Sidaway helped to observe closely the Australian Education System. The report of training programme was widely covered by the Australian and Indian newspapers and newsletters of Australian schools. (Annexure- I)

FUN WITH COLOURS

Pre-School and Pre-Primary students celebrated ‘FUN WITH COLOURS’ on the playfield with MS EMILY CONNORS and MS KATIE COLEBORN, gap year students from RIDING HIGH SCHOOL, UK to participate in a Fun event for students of Pre-School and Pre-Primary. The morning began with a myriad of fun games and races like Colour the partner race, Pichkari and Balloons race etc. Everyone was spell bound by the twinkle toed energy displayed by the young athletes. Thunderous applause from the parents spoke volumes about the success of the programme.

UKIERI CLUSTER TEACHERS VISIT TO INDIA

It was another opportunity for teachers of the school and Staffordshire cluster to renew contact and foster new bonds. In the second year of the partnership, Ms Elizabeth Stanley from St John Fischer Catholic High School and Mr Alex Dawes visited the school from April 25, 2009 to May 2, 2009. The main focus of this visit was to exchange Joint curricular project work done by pupils in the link schools. Another major highlight of their trip was a visit to Taj Mahal which succeeded in captivating imagination with its ageless beauty and enigma.

UKIERI EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

The school Principal visited UK from September 27 to October 4, 2009 as part of UKIERI Project by the British Council Library. The school is already making its presence felt in the international arena by initiating partnerships with New Zealand, Australia and UK schools. The Principal carried with her a number of projects made by students of the school, which were presented to their counterparts of the Blackfriars School, St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and St. John Fischer Catholic College. Fruitful dialogues and healthy discussions were held with the Head teachers of these schools paving way for many collaborative projects. In short the visit went a long way in forging new bonds and paving way for future partnerships.

AUSTRALIA - INDIA PRINCIPALS PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM

The school Principal was invited to give a presentation on learning outcomes of her Australian visit on September 12, 2009 in a programme organized by Australian High Commission which was widely attended by members from HRD Ministry, CBSE Chairman Mr Vineet Joshi, Principals of leading schools and members of Australian High Commission.

CONNECTING CLASSROOMS

Mr Mike Hardy, Connecting Classrooms Program Coordinator and Ms Sally Goggin, Head Education, British Council India accompanied by Ms Rittika Parruck, Regional Head, Connecting Classrooms India and Sri Lanka visited the school on October 27, 2009 to share the experience of integrating internationalism in the school. They were greeted by children dressed in different languages and traditional costumes. They were impressed with the knowledge and learning exhibited by students in their display of international projects on “Windows to the World”.

Range of international projects including UKIERI, Newsletter Exchange and collaborative learning with partners across the globe were on display. Mr. Patrick Sanderson from St. Michaels School, UK who was also present on the occasion shared his excitement about teaching students about Halloween and in turn learning about Diwali from them during his stay in the school. On the whole the school provided a glimpse of its engagement in the intercultural dialogue which helped students find their link and place in the world and understand it better.

FACE TO FAITH PROGRAMME

The school gloriously joined hands with Tony Blair Faith Foundation and entered into Video Conferencing with schools across the globe. The Tony Blair Foundation has sponsored facility for video conferencing, giving it the status of a lead school and enabling us to make face to face links with schools across the world. The school students had meaningful exchange with their counterparts in Apeejay School, Pitampura, The Banyan Tree and The Westhoughton School, U.K.

The students exchanged views on pertinent issues such as poverty, terrorism, faith and identity, fostering skills like collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem solving. The students responded intelligently to each other’s queries and reflected deeply.

VISIT OF TERENA POPE, PRINCIPAL, PARA VISTA SCHOOL, AUSTRALIA

Ms Terena Pope, Principal, Para Vista Primary School, Australia visited the school from January 15 to 18, 2010 on a reciprocal visit, close on the heels of Principal’s visit to Australia in June 2009. She interacted with the students and discussed issues like festivals and climate. A special assembly was conducted to welcome her. Ms Pope addressed the students and shared her views and experiences.

WORLD PANASONIC ROPE JUMP CONTEST

Panasonic Kids School from Japan organized World Rope Jumping competition. A ten member team from Japan made video recording of Jumps made by pupils continuously for 3 minutes. Our pupils took 236 jumps and earned 2360 points which is the highest among schools in India who participated in the event. This is an International event taking place in Japan, China, Vietnam, India, Canada, Brazil, Germany and Czechoslovakia. The top four countries will meet in Japan for the final round scheduled on March 21, 2010. So far our school which is representing India in the finals has been ranked as number 3.

INTERNATIONAL FOOD COURT

International Cafeteria was initiated on December 25, 2009 during the Christmas Carnival where students and teachers prepared and served delicacies from various parts of the world. The initiative was very well appreciated not only for the quality of food but also for the warmth and hospitality shown by student volunteers at work. Many commented on its obvious spin off of greater bonding and sharing within families and across cultures (through food) which somehow is becoming a casualty in the fast pace of modern life style.

WINDOWS TO THE WORLD

An exhibition of international projects and models made by pupils based on country allotted to each class showing location on the map of places of interest, costume, food and festivals, currency , monuments and people was on display on the occasion of Annual Day.

Displays included countries like Australia, New Zealand, France, China, Japan, USA and UK. Pupils impressed the visitors with their in depth knowledge about geographical, historical, political, economic and other details about their project country on which they had been working during the year. Costumes and presentation by pupils were well appreciated and lauded by members of the Managing Committee and international guests.

INTERNATIONAL FLAG DAY – FLAG MAKING

Celebration of global diversity through flags was the main objective of celebrating International Flag Day on December 7,2009. A project called Flags on eLanguages website invited schools to look at the history of our flags and to design our own. This idea caught the imagination of children. The entire school wore an “international” look with flags of all colours adorning the corridors. Students in primary classes were happy to colour their national flag and learn about the significance of colours in the flag. Greatest enthusiasm was displayed by pupils of middle and secondary department who traced the history of evolution of Indian Flag. The work was displayed on eLanguages website where students shared their flags with peers across the globe.

LEARNING TO GREET THE WORLD IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES

The school organized an event “Say Hello to the World” which took several creative turns. The students were thrilled to dress up in the native costume of their chosen country and to greet everyone who came their traditional way. The project was very successful in transforming a local school into a hub of internationalism.

This project was chosen for the Guard of Honour on the Annual Day Celebrations.

MOVIE MAKING COMPETITION

An inter-school movie making competition was organized on November 19, 2009 where each school presented a 5 minute movie clip on the topic “Internationalism in my School”. Spectacular game shows like Around the World in Seven Rounds covered a range of topics spanning all geographical zones of the globe enlisting participation of future world travellers. Further, Dramatization of World Folk Tales and Puppet Making Competition brought to the fore the creative genius of our international netizens.

SCHOOL NEWSLETTER EXCHANGE

The E- Newsletter of the school, BBPS Mail, continues to make waves locally and globally. The exchange which was initiated with Carlton Digby School for special children has blossomed into a full bloom as expression of unbridled creativity of pupils and has reached shores of New Zealand, England and Lebanon.

The newsletter is available on school website as well as widely circulated among partner schools.

DRESS ME UP DAY –DRESSING UP AS FAMOUS PERSONALITIES

The Dress Me Up project for Pre-School was a unique International peagent of personalities from across the globe. Nowhere else could one come across crying Robin Hood being rescued by Alice in Wonderland. Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabian and Taiwanese all nationalities were speaking the same language of love, peace and harmony of the world which they are yet to explore. The beguiling smiles won hearts and citations for conveying such poignant message to the world.

HALLOWEEN DAY

Halloween costume party was organized on October 22, 2009 for the students of Pre-School and Pre-Primary. The children were involved in decorating the venue and created Halloween decorations to hang from the ceiling. They all came dressed up in impressive and creative costumes with wigs, Halloween masks and accessories like brooms and spooky hats. Everyone had a great time dancing to the tune of creepy music, trying to scare each other. They were also engaged in a variety of activities like mask making, designing cowboy hats and headbands. The game ‘Go away Monster’ was thoroughly enjoyed by our young ones.

ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION DAY

To promote parity across cultural and racial divides, ‘Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day’ was celebrated on December 14, 2009. A special assembly was conducted. A skit was organized along with a song and dance sequence which drove home the point in a subtle but sure manner.

WORLD AIDS DAY

World AIDS Day was celebrated with an aim to spread awareness about the issue at the grass root level. An Inter-Class Radio Show Competition was held for the students of class IX with ‘AIDS’ as the theme. The show went a long way in disseminating useful information in a subtle manner.
